Two and the Zoo

This morning Emily had her 2 year check up.  WOW!  When we arrived she was all smiles and happy to have a little movie time.

But once the nurse called us back and we approached the doorway, her memories of the "elbow incident" and extreme pain caused between those walls came flooding back.  She cried through being weighed, kept saying "all done," got it together a little for her temp, and then lost it again when I put her down to be measured.  Luckily she is smart enough to reason with (to a point of course) and after I explained that her arm wasn't hurt like last time and that there wouldn't be any pain inflicted, she completely calmed down and didn't have another tear or whimper.  She did offer up a prayer that I was telling the truth while waiting for the doctor though...

Her stats: 30 lbs.  34.5 inches - happy and healthy.  When he asked about her speech I answered and then asked Emily to tell Dr. R all about her upcoming visit to the zoo including all of the animals she would see.  I think he particularly liked her "hippopomus."  

So, once we were out that door we drove straight over to the zoo since it was opening an hour early for members.  Plus we had to scope it all out for when the WHOLE family goes for her birthday on Saturday.  :D

We were welcomed by this little guy.  He weighs 5 pounds and it was hard for me to resist picking him up.  

Emily was talking about this one as I laid her down for nap... he was also at the entrance.

After saying our hellos to those two we ran over to the Komodo Dragon because I knew something special was happening at 9:30.

I knew about the Komodo but not this tortoise, a great surprise.

Most of the other animals were just standing around...

and Emily had a GREAT time.

You won't believe the "adorableness" of this video.  I know that Mimi will especially LOVE it.  It is from the beginning of our day when the zookeeper told the crowd that the penguin needed to go and have his breakfast.  One would expect that she would pick him up...

Memorable Memorial Weekend

On Sunday we were off to Nana and Grandpa's new house so Daddy could golf and Emily could play too!  First was the kiddie pool... 

which she thought was the BEST.  She did really love the big pool too though!  She jumped in off the edge and really liked when I threw her up in the air - so we did it over and over again - my arms did not thank me.When Daddy and Grandpa were home from golfing and it was apparent that Emily was too pumped to nap in a strange place we headed off for the park.  Emily even got to ride there in "Grandpa's Special Car."

Once at the park it was confirmed that the equipment was entirely TOO hot to touch so everyone had to work together to keep Emily having fun without touching anything.

They say it takes a village.

But my favorite had to be the towel positioning on the slide...

Emily had her own magic carpet ride...

and luckily I had a long dress.

After PLENTY of time in the heat it was finally time to head home via golf cart...

and play in the hose.  

Payback...

and FUN!

As you can see, we chose not to put on her bathing suit or a swim diaper.

Regular diaper plus water doesn't usually end well.

Finally cool again, Emily was back inside playing with the trains...

sporting her first real pony tail.

Then it was time to leave again for dinner at the neighborhood Memorial Day festival...

where Emily was excited to go on the inflatables.  I was sure she would love the obstacle course and slide.  It DID start out well...

but by the end it wasn't such a big hit anymore.

Good thing the bounce house was fun!

We were glad to end our day at a different park that was shaded!!  Emily had fun on this random bridge slide thing... 

and found that it was nice and noisy when you jump on it.

But, poor Emily never did stop longing for another dip in the pool.

Whew... what a day!
