As I said, Emily was really excited to be home. She was all smiles at breakfast on Thursday morning (12/2) and enjoyed turning her calendar to the last month of 2010. I thought it was the perfect time to bring up the BIG changes she would soon be making - she was on board.

So, that afternoon we got to work...

(Emily is always ready to be a big help, especially when tools are involved)

Now, let me pause here for a second. Everything was going swimmingly... the front panel and rail were both off really quick. So, it was time to reattach the mattress support (remember, it's been laying on the floor since she climbed out in July) and I went to the top drawer of her changing table to get the bolts but they weren't there! WHAT?!?! I KNEW that is where they should be... that is where I would put them! Unless! Maybe I put them in the drawer in her table. Nope, not in there either! Soon after this Daddy came home, we ate dinner really fast and then got back to work - we still had to find those bolts! We tore the house apart. We looked EVERYWHERE - in a million places I knew I would never put them. I came across countless labeled baggies of random bolts and hardware but never the bolts we needed! I was getting VERY annoyed and Daddy was laughing about my pregnant brain. I reminded him that I wasn't pregnant when I took the bed apart so they should be in the top drawer!!!! He said that he was referring more to being able to find them now and as I searched the drawer for the ???th time Daddy said, "why don't I look with a fresh pair of eyes?" Sure, great, fine, but if we didn't find them right then it was going to stay on the floor for the night and we were moving on with the rest of the project! Fifteen seconds... at most... guess what he found in the top drawer?! AAAAHHH!!! I KNEW they had to be in there!
With all of that drama and wasted 30 minutes behind us we were back on track and Emily was still totally into it. She was very good with the flashlight...

and when she switched to work on the bolts, she made sure I knew just where to point it!

Before too long we were done and Emily tried out her new BIG GIRL BED!

Then, after a bit it was really time to get in - she was all for it.

Really, she was - see for yourself.
We read a couple of books, I ran through her required sleep song list and left the room. That was it. She hardly moved around and was sound asleep before too long.
So there you have it. Emily is sleeping in a big girl bed! I was worried about her getting up - especially during naps but so far so PERFECT! She had a harder time than usual staying in bed until the "yellow sun came up" (her special night light to say when it is okay to call Mama and Daddy since she wakes SO early) in the morning but for the last several days she has done just great! Yahoo!!
What great news that the transition went so well...sometimes they surprise us.
ReplyDeleteNice! What a relief for you guys!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, YAY to a big girl bed! Thank goodness she did such a great job staying in it all night! (Funny story about the missing bolts, Paul will never let you live that down :))
ReplyDeleteMommy brain is the darndest thing isn't it??? And I showed this to the boys with the super high hopes that Nicolas would see Emily go to sleep so nice and easy that he would want to do the same. That was not the case. It was worth a shot.
ReplyDeleteBravo to Miss Emily and I sincerely hope she keeps it up for you!
YEA EMILY!!! Glad it's a success. And especially glad you found those bolts. Sophia's not much of a climber so I'm crossing my fingers that we can just keep her in the crib for a while.
ReplyDeleteThe test drive just slayed me. All the squirming around and back out the other side yelling, "FIX THE BIG GIRL BED!...please". Emily you are a funny girl!

Wow, a HUGE milestone in Emily's sweet little life! I am so impressed that she has been staying in her bed like a good girl. Maybe she can talk some sense into her friend Noah about that :)
