In September Emily started her first sticker chart. I had been wanting to get her going on one for a little while but the perfect time to do it presented itself LOUD and CLEAR one day. You see, we were at Babies R Us/Toys R US getting a few things for Everett and when we left Emily was "toyless" and upset. There was no issue in the store but as we walked through the parking lot and drove home we had MAJOR issues! (Adults shouldn't grocery shop when hungry. Kids shouldn't go to toy stores when hungry and tired.) That day was the birth of her first reward chart and when she filled it all up she could go back and buy the toy she wanted.
(Luckily, Daddy was able to find a picture of it online because she hadn't even pointed it out to me in the store... she just said she wanted the boat, Rapunzel, Pascal, and the prince.)
Emily earned stickers for doing her "jobs" - like putting away the clean silverware, cleaning up the playroom, random tasks we assigned her - and also for some behavior modifications we were making at the time. We were very generous with the stickers because it was important that she stay interested and excited about filling her chart that first time. So, after about 4 days Emily picked out the sticker,
as Everett watched with baited binky breath,
that would COMPLETE her sticker chart!
So we loaded in the car...
and searched the princess aisle...

until she spotted it! Hooray!
The boat! Rapunzel! The prince! Pas... Pascal??!
There was no Pascal so she changed her mind and went for the set that included Pascal AND Maximus... but didn't have a boat.
She was pretty excited about getting a horse!! (She has been very creative with horses for the princesses... using horse puzzle pieces, a super tiny horse she chose at the dentist, a ridiculously large stuffed giraffe, etc.)
Then she proudly carried her chart up to the man to show him that she had earned her reward! As far as she was concerned, that chart was legal tender at Toys R Us.
Yay!
When we got home she wasted NO time, the car ride was long enough, and opened it all up.

A horse!
Once released, the first thing Rapunzel had to do was go around and meet all of the princesses.

And the next morning Emily discovered that her doll house is the perfect size for Rapunzel and her hair!
Success! We have already filled another chart and are working on the third. This time she is working to earn a viewing of a movie she has never seen before. We will see though, she still really wants that boat!
I love it! What a perfect way to start Emily on a road of earning things she wants. I will definitely have to try this with Noah very soon...
