Emily's High Chair

I was planning to post a little something about Emily's high chair since I have noticed it in some posts recently.
You see, the thing is, we LOVE her high chair! We LOVE that she still has two of her three meals in it. She sits relatively still, has her food at a good height and close, and it keeps her in a nice seated position! We don't care that she is almost 3 1/2. When everything about meal time is difficult with Emily, we relish the one thing that is simple. Somewhat related, I have been talking to Emily a lot lately about jumping around the table, kitchen island, and bathroom counters. She has a bit of a bounce in her step and I fear that her mouth is going to come in contact and lose the fight.

So, I can't say I was surprised the other day when I heard a loud thud and immediate shriek when Emily was "sitting" at the kitchen table playing cards ("sitting" on her knees with pants... SLIP!). She came over to me holding her mouth and I just KNEW that we were on our way out the door with broken teeth. When I moved her hands away from her mouth, however, I didn't see any blood and I did see whole teeth. I rested her head back on my shoulder and tried to calm her down before pulling her away again to inspect the condition of her teeth and mouth. It was then that I saw the blood.
It turns out that she cut the inside of her lip with her teeth when her mouth came in contact with the table. I had been telling her that if she hit her mouth there would be a lot of blood so I actually took the picture (above) to show it to her. It wasn't until later that she returned to the table and pointed out how the table fared in the battle.
This victory goes to Emily and I hope the table, counter, etc. never have one to report. And as for the high chair... we still love it. We might need to buy a second one for Everett.

  1. WOW!! Those are some strong teeth Emily!! It's funny because Nicolas is, well, Nicolas and I threaten him almost daily that I am going to buy him a baby seat so I can strap him in. Keep that think as long as you can Mama!!
And love your profile pic! You look so grown up.

  2. Wow! Look at that chunk outta the table. Poor Emily! Can't relate to the high chair attachment. Sophia hasn't used one in forever. I think she stopped at around 1 and half when we started with the booster seat.

  6. Oh dear! Poor Emily and poor table, too. I guess I vote for the high chair for a bit longer. Or maybe a booster seat with a buckle? Noah still sits in his occasionally but he usually sits quite still during meals (we have a convertable high chair/booster). Good luck!

  8. That hurts my teeth. Emily, we can all introduce you to all kinds of yummy foods.... you don't have to try to eat the table. ; ) So happy you, and your pretty teeth, are OK.
