Halloween Outing

On Halloween morning we raced out of the house to hit the petting zoo as early as we could. It was so nice because we got there before everyone else and had the place to ourselves for almost an hour. When we first got there, Emily was only interested in looking at the animals. She did not want to go in the bunny and guinea pig pen with Mama and Grandpa - preferring to look on with Nana.
So, what DID she do you wonder? Well, she played in the "corn box,"

swung a little,
went back in the corn box,
contemplated sitting in the carriage until she saw the scary man,
went down the slide,
THOUGHT about getting close to the ostrich,
slid,
and back to the corn box.
Until we finally got her to go into the area with the bigger animals.

She was particularly interested in this one goat who seemed to be in "time out" with his nose in the corner.
(Who knows what terrible noise she thought the tortoise might make!?)

The first animals she really reached out to touch were the little horses.

After a while the goat finally left his corner!! Hooray!
Since Emily had warmed up, we took her back to the small animal pen.

She even picked up a guinea pig on her own! But since she was trying to hand him to me and I was trying to get the camera, Grandpa supported the little guy - just in case.

And Everett, well he just did his normal thing. Hanging out and then did take a little snooze for his morning nap.
By this time another family had arrived but Emily still got to ride the train all by herself.
It might have been better if she wasn't by herself. She held back the tears, but just barely. The nice lady stopped the train and gave back her token.

To finish the morning, we bought a basket of carrots and Emily had a blast feeding the goats...

pigs,
and mule.
It was then that a huge school group showed up and the place was a mad house. Those POOR little guinea pigs and bunnies - their pen was FULL! It was time for us to say good-bye indeed!
