Trick or Treat

This year Emily went back and forth between being a pumpkin and a witch. She mostly said witch, and in the end, that is what she chose. I asked her if she wanted to be a good witch or a bad witch and she chose a bad witch. So... I gave her a BAD makeup job.
Thankfully, she didn't care at all and was off on her broomstick in no time.
I could barely keep her in one place to get a picture - and even then she was practicing her best witch cackle.

When Daddy got home she ran to scare him!
(He admitted that the makeup job was the scariest part. But I digress.)

For the sake of dressing up, Everett went as a horse.
No one ever guesses that this costume is a horse but when Everett is looking at his feet you can see the mane!
And from the side, you can see the tail. Which causes more confusion now that I think of it...
Regardless, the costume is a bit warm so Everett needed some time in front of the fan...
while the jack o' lanterns were put out...
and lit.
And as the sun set, we snapped a couple of pictures...

and marched out the door.
Emily was SO excited to go from house to house.
(Except for this one. She decided she didn't want to get candy THAT bad!)
And each time she would come down the walkway shouting, "they were home!" (For the picture she shouted in her microphone broomstick.)
We made a stop to visit this scary guy who runs on a wire between a house and the street light.

And we tried to get her to take a picture next to her fellow witch but she was a little worried that the witch was going to move too.
(This careless witch crashed into the tree of her friend, Sydney's, house and Emily made me drive out of the way to see it ALL of the time. Emily even wanted to have green hands like her.)

We were out trick or treating for about an hour and Emily would have gladly gone to every single house in the neighborhood.
But instead, we headed back home and took a picture with "Duck Duck" (Duck Duck Goose is her full name) since she was dressed up as a witch too! (should have tipped up Duck Duck's hat... she is under there, I promise)
Once home, Emily followed the path lit by our wonderful jack o' lanterns...
and sat cackling on the front porch.
She had just as much fun passing out the candy as she did collecting it!

She decided that night that her favorite candies are Reese's Pieces. And since Halloween she has only had one piece from her basket. More for us!!

  1. Looks like a fun night! Isn't it funny how they get just as much joy from handing out candy as getting it! I think that was the highlight of my boys' night :) Cute costumes!

  2. The horsie's expression in the first picture is hilarious! Equaled by his inspection of the witch sitting next to him - LOL! Love the cackling pictures too! Nicely done, escort team, wearing the colors of the day!

  6. Happy Halloween, Emily Rose! I love your witch costume (I knew it would be scary). And I love Everett's horsie costume, too (I totally knew what he was by the way). I'm so glad you had such a great time trick-or-treating and didn't eat too much candy (Noah only ate one piece of his candy, too, thank goodness...he kinda forgot about it after Halloween night).
