After mass, we walked over to Aunt Mo and Uncle Rick's house. Emily was very happy to find that the Easter Bunny had also visited their house and left eggs with money this time!
She was also very excited to find Aunt Mo's office down in the garage complete with a magic mirror. Aunt Mo was asking the mirror who the fairest one of all was...
and was quite furious when the mirror replied that the fairest is Emily Rose.
Emily was very delighted by it's response though...
and made Aunt Mo ask again and again.
After some more playing around, Emily enjoyed her lunch out on the top deck...
and was dancing around, having a great time...
until she got a handful of splinters. Uncle Rick had warned that the railings could give splinters...
and he was right! Emily wouldn't let me near them but did agree to a warm water soak.
She was very upset for several minutes...
which made all of us sad - even Everett.(As it turns out, Emily was afraid that she was going to die. Something about Jesus getting nails in his hands and then dying. Ahem. A little much for a three year old, we feel, so discussions with preschool are ongoing! GRRRRR.)
I did a terrible job of getting a picture of everyone else in attendance since they arrived shortly before the splinter debacle but there is a group shot out there somewhere! Uncle Greg (who's family also came over) took a quick shot of us...
before we all changed clothes for the long drive home. (Notice how Emily is keeping her splinter filled hand against her tummy.)
Now, one reason we chose Easter weekend for our trip to San Francisco is so that we could see the Big Wheel race (BYOBW12 - there are also several videos on YouTube if you want to check out the crazy fun). But, when we made our plans we didn't realize it was so late in the afternoon. We decided that instead of sticking around this year we would get on the road and plan to attend another year. But, as we were driving away we saw two early birds on their way to the starting line.
It's a good thing we made that decision (leaving by 3 o'clock) because it was a long drive home! Much of which I spent on the floor between the kids. :)

What a fun filled weekend we had! It was SO much fun and several beautiful days!
*By the time Emily would let me get a good look at her hand (the next day) several of the splinters (that were barely in the skin) had fallen off and I counted 43. Today, we are down to just 2 or 3. Hooray!

Oooh OWIE! Poor Emily, from fairest to sorest of them all in just a few hours! Glad many of the offending splinters got up and left on their own!
ReplyDeleteBig soft hugs!
Poor baby! That's a lot of splinters!
ReplyDeleteHey! That early early bird (the one in front) seems to be breaking up the rules with a non-regulation metal included vehicle! Those videos make me a little nerdus!
ReplyDelete(shouts out to MSV!)
43!!! That's a ton of splinters! I might think I was dying as well :) (we got a TON of questions when sunday school brought that whole think up - can't imagine it with a 3 year old!) Poor girl - but what a gorgeous day!!
ReplyDeleteYou had quite an afternoon, too! Too bad you got splinters. Boo! Looks like Aunt Mo's mirror was a big hit, though! And it still looks like a super fun Easter was had by all in the end.
