Everyone knows that Emily likes books. You have also seen much evidence that she likes to read to help pass the time that would otherwise be "wasted."
First, the other night I was heading to put Emily to bed when I saw one of the books sitting on my desk. I chose not to pick it up so that we could have one bedtime pass without reading it! Well, Emily didn't like the idea I guess and once we sat down to read she started saying, "book, book." I tried showing her other books but we both knew which one she wanted so I told her she could go get the book (I was wondering if she had any idea where she had it last). Of course, she walked out of her room, took a decisive right turn, walked to the study, and brought the book back with her.
Second, last night as I was carrying her to the room after bath I spied a book on the family room floor. Just as before, I left it laying there and got her ready for bed. You guessed it... she wanted the darn book again and walked straight out to pick it up! It's like she has a radar for these things!
Extra story: hehe
After Emily carried the book into her room she then started telling me she wanted Curry and Baby (they were in the dining room) so I told her to go get them. Then she gathered Elmo and Big Bird to sit with us (her "babies" are another obsession) in the chair to read THE book. On the second page I was reading about a butterfly and as soon as I was done Emily said, "Butterfly, Baby!" Then Emily grabbed the baby's head (which was facing her chest) and turned her so that the baby could SEE the butterfly! I was pretty surprised that she knows enough to know that the baby's eyes have to face the book in order to see the butterfly. This little girl cracks me up!
Does it make a bad mom if I hide some of Sophia's books under the couch so I don't have to read them yet again? So far, she hasn't discovered our secret stash. But I agree, after the 200th time, any book can get old. Glad she is developing a love for reading so early.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I may have said this before BUT-she's smarter than you two...you're in for a fun ride!! I LOVE her and you'll love having these memories collected for later!

PS-perhaps the two books could go on your trip??
I love this post so much! It shows how amazing and hilarious toddlers can be with their obsessions. Noah is obsessed with stickers right now and I find myself hiding them so that I don't have to pick up the "sticker carnage" that is left behind after he is done with them. Hee, hee. And I love how smart Emily is! Her little mind is sure growing more and more each day. I agree with Mimi...she has outsmarted the adults for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteaWw. Again, reading your post reminds me of my girl when she was a baby. She, too, loved her babies. Elmo and Grover were called, "the boys," and were always invited to the tea parties. It's funny one of Lauren's favorite books is a LARGE, purple nursery rhyme book. Ahh. I so much miss those days.
ReplyDeleteReading is so important, and apparently Emily got the memo! And of course, the bigger the book the better it is.
ReplyDeleteWhat cute stories! I love that she loves books! She must get some great models from her mommy :) How adorable that she knew to face her baby toward the book, that is really amazing that she knows that already. She's just going to keep getting smarter and smarter and that could be trouble for you guys when she's a teenager... :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that Emily loves to read and to read to her babies, as well as to Daddy and Mommy. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteLove, Aunt Carolyn
So glad Em got the memo about early reading being an indicator of later success in life :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love Mimi's suggestion of taking the books with you on your trip. I'm sure Emily would be willing to share.
