Helping Out?

Well, to say that we have been keeping busy with household projects this week would be an understatement.  I posted on FB - "1.5 year olds really aren't as helpful as they think they are."  That's because while I have been working away, Emily has been "helping" me A LOT.
On Monday, we bundled up and headed to the backyard where I was pulling weeds and replacing furniture on the deck - since we just had it refinished.  For every handful of weeds I threw in the bucket, Emily threw in a handful of mulch.  I know that is what it looked like I was doing but...  She also really likes rocks so she did a lot of rearranging of the ones that line our walking path.  By "rearrange" I mean throwing them into the middle of the path.  But, she really enjoyed her time outside, especially when she found all of her sand/water toys...
and when we came back in she was so frozen that I stuffed her under this blanket.  Any "help" forgotten... look at that face!
We have also been hitting the home improvement stores a lot which Emily enjoys.  Even though it doesn't look like it.  :)
On Wednesday I spent much of the day touching up paint around the house.  Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of how helpful she was that day (I had to take advantage if she was busy!!!) but she had her own paint brush and "painted" a lot!  The only bad part was when she would see me touching up at her level and would come running over to "help" - eek... abort mission, move higher!  Then again... higher isn't always better.  I was up on a chair painting over some patchwork we had done when Emily saw me and came running.  She struggled for a few seconds (as I furiously tried to finish since I knew my time was up) and when I turned around she was standing on the chair behind me with paint brush in hand.
I waited until Daddy came home that night to touch up the ceiling and guess who was right there to help!!
With all of the projects around the house I fell far far behind on laundry and when I did start trying to catch up Emily was ready to help in that area too.
But, this is my job and I love it.  Even though my work takes longer - look at who I have as my best assistant.
Seriously?  No complaints here!

  3. Good job with the helping Emily! At least you caught her laundry helping before you started the load. Oh, you might want to check your trash cans. A friend of ours had their phone thrown away after their son "helped" them with cleaning.

  4. Hilarious! You are so right...1.5 year olds are definitely not super good "helpers" and our work takes soooo much longer than it should. But at the end of the day, we gaze into those sweet little eyes and it all goes away. Good luck on your projects...I know you'll need it :)
