The Latest

So, in starting this new year I have made some plans to make it a great new year WITH friends!  We are on the hunt - we WILL find them!

The first thing we have going is swimming lessons.  Emily is going back to Mr. Shane two days a week and so far so good, he thinks she will be back up to speed in no time.  Then, just by chance, on Tuesday afternoon Emily rode her bike to our neighborhood park...
and after a little while cars started pulling up loaded with moms and kids!  The infamous "Tuesday Park Playdate" in my neighborhood was coming to us!  Emily was ecstatic and had a great time introducing herself to everyone - I wish I was as outgoing as she is! - while I did my best to talk to the moms.  I did talk to "the mom" and was able to get her email, give her mine, and she also introduced me to the small group of moms that were there for that day's gathering.  They said hello and not much else but hey, it's something!  Maybe the ones that didn't come are the really welcoming ones?!  Maybe?

The second conscious thing I did was sign up again for that Moms Club meetup group that I tried in the fall.  Remember the trip to the park to meet with at least a FEW of the 45 moms in the group?  The one when NO ONE showed up, not even the greeter?  Yep, them.  Now they are up to 60 moms and I was accepted to the group - really, I got an email acceptance, haha.  Anyway, this group has something almost every day of the month (including mom only nights) and we went to our first meetup yesterday at a park.  The hard thing about this group is that there are so many people and SO many events that when we were scattered around following our kids, the other moms didn't know whether or not I was brand new or they just hadn't overlapped me at an event yet - which means they didn't come over to talk to me and carried on with the other moms they did know.  Once I worked my way in and told them I was new they were very nice and welcoming so hopefully it will be a good thing for us.

Emily, of course, did very well talking to the other children.  She just walked up and talked to them like she had known them all of her life and she spent the last 15 minutes of our time dancing with a little 4 year old girl.  Emily was in HEAVEN!  It was pretty hilarious.  Emily didn't really think we needed to leave but did a good job leaving without issue, even telling the little girl good-bye and thanking her for the dance.  It was definitely time, Emily was hungry and tired... the perfect combination for crabby so I had to move fast!
Lastly, we are starting a Parent Ed class just like the one my mom did with all three of us.  That will start in February and will be every Tuesday from 9-12, I am really looking forward to it!

So, there you have it - our new agenda.  Hopefully it will keep us busy and happy for the next several months until we are homebound with a newborn!  ;)

Oh, and just for kicks, I thought I would share this tidbit.  The other day when picking up Emily's prescription, first ear infection - boo,  she found the dog toy aisle and picked up this squeaky toy that Keira used to have.  As she squeaked it over and over, very loudly, she asked if she could get it for nap time.
Uhhhh, let me think about it... NO!

  6. I think I am just as excited about your new as ... well, emily! ha! What is the Parent Ed class? Also, I had the same problem at some of our play dates- not knowing who is in the group, but the mom night outs helped and one of my friends started feeling better after she hosted a few play dates- I wish I could but no house doesn't make good for that. But we could for she swap play date ideas! Go Get 'Em Mama! Oh, and also I typerd up my own mommy calling cards- cheesey but it worked! My favorite soccer mama called us!
